MGTO awarded 2019 PATA Grand Award in Marketing for “Experience Macao Food Truck in Los Angeles”

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has unveiled the 33 accolade winners of the 2019 PATA Grand and Gold Awards. The Grand Award in the Marketing Category goes to the mega promotional campaign “Experience Macao Food Truck in Los Angeles” rolled out by the Macao Government Tourism Office last year.  

 

At the PATA Gold Awards Dinner and Presentation on 19 September during PATA Travel Mart 2019, to be held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan throughout the period of 18 – 20 September, the Association will present four Grand Awards and 29 Gold Awards to celebrate extraordinary accomplishment in seven broad categories: Marketing Campaign, Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility, Heritage and Culture, Education and Training, Marketing Media and Travel Journalism. A judging panel consisting of tourism industry experts had voted winners among 197 entries received from 78 organizations and individuals worldwide this year.

 

Unique “Experience Macao Food Truck in Los Angeles” Garnered Grand Award

MGTO hosted the “Experience Macao Food Truck in Los Angeles” from 29 May – 2 June, 2018, providing residents and travelers a taste of Macao, from samples of signature pork chop buns and Portuguese egg tarts from Macao, twice-daily lion dance performances, to practical travel tips. The Office also invited key members of trade and media for a firsthand experience of the Food Truck with sampling of Macao’s signature delicacies ahead of the official launch of the campaign. In addition, through an integrated media approach, destination and food truck promotions were rolled out across print and online media. The Macao Food Truck also visited five iconic Los Angeles destinations, further enhancing the overall promotional effectiveness. This campaign has earned MGTO a PATA Grand Award.

 

Starting from 2017, through concerted efforts of its overseas representatives, MGTO has been rolling out Macao Food Truck mega promotional campaigns in a wide variety of destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sydney, Melbourne, Lisbon, Vladivostok, Bangkok, Phuket, Taipei, Mumbai, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Langkawi, among others. The campaign aims to promote Macao’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in October 2017, the unique gastronomic culture of Macao as well as the city’s rich and diverse tourism experiences to residents, travelers and travel trade across the globe.

 

This is the fifth time for MGTO to be distinguished with the prestigious PATA accolade. MGTO received a 2002 PATA Grand Award for Marketing with the "Macao Welcomes You Passport Campaign", was granted a 2007 PATA Grand Award for Heritage with its "Macao World Heritage Year Campaign", a 2008 PATA Gold Award for Travel Advertisement Print Media for its “Experience Macao” campaign, and a 2016 PATA Gold Award for Marketing Media – Mobile Travel Application with its “Step Out, Macao” Mobile App.

 

Macao Trade Wins Gold Award for Three Years in a Row

Once again, this year's winners include tourism enterprise from Macao. Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited has secured a PATA Gold Award in the category of Marketing – Hospitality for “The Art of Winning” advertising campaign, marking its third win of the same accolade since 2017. The campaign is designed to promote the relaunch of its flagship integrated resort, featuring visionary artwork, architectural masterpieces, high-end gastronomy and immersive entertainment to indulge the senses through unprecedented, ground-breaking experiences.

 

Founded in 1951, PATA is a non-profit membership association dedicated to building responsible development of the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism industry, with its members comprising government, state and city tourism bodies, international airline and airports, educational institutions, and travel industry companies in Asia Pacific and beyond. For decades, PATA has been a valuable platform for Macao to promote its tourism image and connect local travel trade stakeholders to the world.
