The Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government will stage their first joint fireworks show together above the sea area in front of Macau Tower and Zhuhai Hengqin Financial Island at 9 p.m. on 22 December in joyful celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The production team is gearing up for the show with unreserved efforts to weave pyrotechnic artistry and advanced technology into a fireworks extravaganza symbolizing unity and celebration, bliss and prosperity.

The “Macao-Zhuhai Fireworks Show in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland” is the first fireworks extravaganza jointly organized by the Macao SAR Government and the Mainland. The show is coordinated by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area. Entering the final stage of preparation, 160,000 fireworks shells, four barges, 16 special-effect launching platforms, 56 unmanned boats and 600 drones arrived at Zhuhai a few days ago. The production team is now tackling different tasks such as installation, setup and testing for the show.

Lasting for 30 minutes, the fireworks show will consist of four chapters: “Beautiful China, Celebrate for Homeland”, “Glorious Years, Gather in Macao”, “Macao and Zhuhai as one Family, Close Friendship as Neighbors” and “Support each other, Build the Bay Area together”. Two barges and eight special-effect launching platforms will be stationed at each of the two fireworks launch sites designated on both sides of Sai Van Bridge. Unmanned boats and drones will be harnessed in the show for the first time.

The show will be unveiled with dazzling fireworks in the pattern of “20” which symbolizes the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland. In addition, drones will form various images including the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as well as a range of characters such as “Macao and Zhuhai united as one family” (in Chinese characters). Merged with pyrotechnics and various cutting-edge technologies, the show will be an immense, innovative and mesmerizing feast for the senses.

As the entity commissioned to carry out the fireworks show, Liuyang Apple Fireworks Artist Display Co., Ltd. is specialized in delivering fireworks shows radiant with spectacular pyrotechnic effects that are in perfect harmony with display sites. The company excels at choreographing fireworks displays over water, blending pyrotechnic effect exquisitely with artistic, technology, aesthetic and other elements. Founded in 2007, the company has staged over 1,300 spectacular fireworks shows at home and abroad, garnering a strong international reputation.

To take fireworks enjoyment to an enhanced level of experience, the coordinators will install sound systems at 11 locations in Macao and Zhuhai, and partner with TDM Radio Macau Chinese Channel (FM100.7) in streaming synchronized background music during the show while TDM Entertainment Channel will live broadcast the spectacular show. Spectators are suggested to watch the fireworks in the vicinity of Sai Van Lake and the Gate of Understanding to enjoy the full view of the show.
