Promotion in Korea (Translation)

Aiming to strengthen the tourism ties between Macau and Korea, MGTO initiated a series of promotional activities from October 15 to 20 in Korea. MSAR's Chief Executive, Mr. Edmund Ho hosted the Opening Ceremony of the "Taste of Macau" Food Promotion and attended the "Macau Night" Dinner Party on 16 October 2002.

Macau SAR Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Chui Sai On led a delegation with 60 members to launch tourism promotional activities in Seoul.

MGTO has been striving to develop potential markets in Asia, and Korea is one of the target markets of Macau. Last year, Korean visitors to Macau has maintained a growing trend, with a 6.41% increase over 2000.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Chui Sai On meet with Mr. Kim Sung Jae, the Minister of Culture and Tourism on October 15 and had a meeting with the representatives of Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA) to exchange views on cultural and tourism issues of the two places as well as enhancing the cooperation on tourism aspect.

At the same day, director of MGTO, Mr. Costa Antunes introduced the tourism industry in Macau and a series of promotional activities to be taken place in Seoul at the press conference.

The spectacular events, featuring a week of 'Taste of Macau' Food Promotion and a photographic exhibition on Macau in Korea, aims to promote Macau to the Korean citizens and enhance the status of Macau as a tourist destination. MGTO has also taken the opportunity to encourage more Korean people to experience the coming up Macau Grand Prix, an international gala.

From October 15 to 20, the ' Taste of Macau' Food Promotion is taking place at the Westin Chosun Hotel, where two chefs from the Westin Resort Macau bring to the Seoul citizens signature dishes of distinctive Macanese cuisine, while another highlight event, the Macau Photo Exhibition, launched at the Shinsegae Department Store, gave a pictorial glimpse of Macau to local residents. Especially for these two promotions, traditional craftsmen from Macau such as a profile cutter and flour doll maker, Chinese Lion dance group and Portuguese folk dance troupe and musicians performed at the venues.
