SilkAir's new Macau - Singapore route was officially launched on the 2nd of July. To go along with this event, MGTO has held a two-day promotion at the Singapore Suntec City, on the 3rd and 4th of this month. The opening ceremony was co-hosted by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Dr. Chui Sai On, the Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, Eng. João Manuel Costa Antunes, a representative of SilkAir and other guests.
Activities included a photo exhibition displaying elements of Macau's culture, large events, tourism spots and sports in Macau. Moreover, the Macau Grand Prix Committee also used the opportunity to promote the historical Macau Grand Prix that will complete half a century next year. There were also booths for tea culture, games, handicrafts and food. The winners of the games received $100 Singapore dollar (approximately MOP$450). Moreover, members from the audience who chose to join the 4-day tour to Macau during the promotional activity could use the cash coupon instantly. This spectacular promotion has attracted a large batch of Singapore residents to drop by and participate.
13 Singapore travel agencies have formed a consortium that composes special tours to Macau. It promotes privileged tourism packages including 4 days/3 nights tours to Macau, Macau and Hong Kong, Macau/Hong Kong/Mainland China. Singapore tourists can choose to fly with SilkAir to Macau, and use airports in Hong Kong or on the Mainland as return option to Singapore.
The Macau SAR Government and SilkAir have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 8th, 2002. The two parties have agreed to develop the air-link between Singapore and Macau, and moreover, to organize joint promotional functions to boost the tourism development of Singapore, Macau and nearby regions.
The Memorandum of Understanding has started to be effective on July 2nd, 2002. SilkAir, which is a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, will operate 2 flights that shuttle between Singapore and Macau, on Tuesday and Friday respectively. Air tickets are available for bookings and purchasing through the webpages of Singapore Airlines and SilkAir.
SilkAir was first established in 1975 and serves as the regional extension of Singapore Airlines' global network. The airline now operates over 105 services a week to 24 exotic destinations in the region from Singapore. |
